"El 8," alleged Beltrán Leyva operator arrested in Zapopan, is being prosecuted.

Irwin "N" , known by the aliases "El 8" or "Viejillo" , was brought to trial for his alleged involvement in drug possession , carrying a firearm for exclusive use , and possession of ammunition reserved for the Armed Forces . The legal action was the result of a joint operation between federal forces, carried out in the municipality of Zapopan, Jalisco .
The arrest was confirmed by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) following the execution of a search warrant in a residential area. Irwin "N" is also being investigated for his involvement in the murder of a federal agent in Culiacán, Sinaloa , in December 2023.
The search was carried out at a home in the Rinconada de Chalma neighborhood, in the municipality of Zapopan. Members of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) , the Ministry of the Navy (Semar) , and federal security authorities executed the warrant that led to the arrest of Irwin "N."
During the operation, the following were seized:
- A long gun supplied ,
- 40 useful cartridges ,
- A plastic bag and two rectangular packages with cocaine hydrochloride , with a total weight of 1 kilo 91.6 grams .
The federal Public Prosecutor's Office presented sufficient evidence to lead to the detainee being charged . A District Judge specializing in the Accusatory Criminal System, based in Puente Grande, ordered pretrial detention and established a two-month period for further investigation .

During the morning press conference on June 24 , Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch provided additional details about the case. He revealed that Irwin "N" was allegedly linked to the murder of a federal agent in Culiacán, Sinaloa, last December.
The victim was identified as Halexy Guadalupe "V" , an investigative agent for the Ministry. The murder took place in the Villas del Río sector, a few hours after García Harfuch met with Governor Rubén Rocha Moya to discuss security issues in the state.
The head of the SSPC emphasized that this crime "will not go unpunished" and that the alleged perpetrators have already been identified, including Irwin "N" .
Official and intelligence reports indicate Irwin “N” as a trusted man of Jesús Alfredo “B” , alias “El Mochomito” , considered the leader of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel .
The cartel, which operated with great power during the first decade of the 21st century, has historically been linked to activities such as drug trafficking, kidnappings, and murders . Although its structure suffered internal divisions following the death of Arturo Beltrán Leyva in 2009, various cells of the group remain active in states such as Sinaloa, Jalisco, and Sonora .
The arrest of "El 8" represents a significant blow to the logistical operations of this criminal group, as he is one of its alleged key operators in the western region of the country.
With the link to the process, Irwin “N” will remain in the Metropolitan Detention Center of Jalisco , under preventive detention, while new proceedings are carried out and more evidence is collected.
The Attorney General's Office , in coordination with the SSPC, continues its investigation to determine the detainee's possible involvement in other serious crimes , including homicides and organized crime .
The arrest of Irwin “N” is part of a series of coordinated actions between federal forces seeking to weaken criminal structures operating in various states of the country, especially those with a historical presence in the Mexican Pacific .
The capture and prosecution of "El 8," a suspected Beltrán Leyva Cartel operative, marks a breakthrough in the fight against organized crime in Mexico. His possible involvement in the murder of a federal agent and his connection to one of the cartel's leaders elevate the significance of this case.
While the investigation is still ongoing, authorities are withholding further details , although new implications and possible links to other criminal organizations are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
